Well I just typed a long, detailed, whitty and insightful comment which I promptly lost!! So now I'll write a somewhat long and much less whitty and insightful one! HA!
I loved the update. However, Lucas is still getting on my last nerve. I hate when people start to tell a story and then don't finish it. On one hand, he appears to want to protect Haley and keep her from Nathan. On the other hand, he won't tell her everything which is just another way of persuading her to seek out Nathan to get the whole story. Lucas knows that once Haley is curious she won't give up until she gets what she wants. Passive-aggressive much? I think Lucas secretly wants Nathan and Haley together.
The much anticipated Nathan and Haley encounter. I would have guessed that it would end up getting heated and physical. Too much unresolved emotion. Lust was never a problem for them. Trust was and is the problem. In real life, I would tell Haley not to get back together with Nathan. Given everything Lucas has said and not said about Nathan's recent past, it appears that Nathan is trying to escape his current problems by going back to an easier, happier time in his life when he was first with Haley. It's been five long, crucial years since they've seen each other. Those are critical years when people change from children to adults. Why would Nathan presume Haley is the same person she was? She's grown even if he hasn't. Why would he presume things would be good for them this time? If I was Haley, I'd run away from Nathan immediately and never look back. But, of course, this isn't real life and I have the luxury here of indulging in my unrealistic, romantic side, so ... go for it Haley!! LOL!
Unfortunately, Nathan doesn't really get the fact that the bitter end of their marriage was his fault. Yes, 2 people are always involved in the demise of a relationship. Certainly, Haley's leaving to pursue her dreams was the initial catalyst to their downfall. However, Haley came back and tried to make amends for a long time. Nathan didn't even attempt to make things right. He was immature and selfish. I don't see how anything has changed at this point given his recent comments. His life sucks so he wants her back and he's confused as to why she won't try. Oh lordy boy open up your eyes. Five years and she's just supposed to look in your baby blue eyes and melt? Nathan needs to try a new approach. How about a tentative friendship? A sincere, heartfelt apology for his juvenille behavior? As you can see, I have a teensy bit of unresolved anger towards Nathan. HA!
Thank you for the wonderful update. I can't wait to read the next one. All my best,
Heh, Luke is definitely passive-aggressive, but in this case, I think his poor, little misguided heart is in the right place. He's caught in the middle between his loyalty to his best friend and that remaining loyalty he has to Luke. And like I mentioned to someone else, he was caught in the middle the first time NH went around, and he got tossed aside by Nathan, too. I don't think being between NH is a place Luke really wants to be again! (He's dumb, but he ain't that dumb...)
Yeah, there are way too many things flying between NH for an encounter - late at night, on a warm summer night - not to get a little physical. Neither of them have really, truly moved on enough to actually have the presence of mind to keep things from going to that next level. In some ways, both are still in the exact place they were when they last parted.
Poor Haley! She always gets put in these position in fics (*cough*myfics*cough*) where no self-respecting woman would ever take the guy back, but it's fic and we all want our happy ending, so she always has to succumb to the inevitable! Hee. And there is nothing wrong with a little unresolved anger, eh?

Don't get me wrong. I could totally envision Haley taking Nathan back if he truly had changed. If they got to know each other in the present. Resolved the anger and moved beyond it. I truly believe they have significant unresolved feelings and that they could fall in love again. The problem is that I don't see Nathan trying to get to know the new Haley. He thinks if he just apologizes and admits he loves her all will be well and they'll have their happily ever after. Haley isn't going for this and I really don't blame her. I have no doubt she'll whip him into shape. The boy needs to finally grow up! I really am enjoying this fic. Take care Brynne and thanks for the response to my comment.
