For those who don't know...
My mother passed away this past Tuesday the 24th, at 8:42 pm. She was having trouble breathing last Friday the 20th, and with her current health problems, my stepfather called the ambulence to take her to the hospital. On the way, she stopped breathing completely. By the time they got her to the hospital and intubated, 30 minutes had passed.
I got the call to get to the hospital, and when I arrived she was unresponsive, and on life support. We spent 4 days in the CICU at Miami Valley hosptial, praying, hoping, wishing... but she never recovered. She had suffered a heart attack and stroke, and the 30 minutes she spent not breathing caused her brain to swell, stopping blood flow to the brain. On Friday evening, they came back with the test results, and pronounced her brain dead. They turned off the ventilator. She took her last breath and I held her hand as her pulse slowly faded.
This has been by far, the hardest week of my life, and I thank everyone for all that they've done, and the support they've given. This was very unexpected, and I'm not coping very well with it all, but I have to be strong and carry on for my mother. It's what she would want.
I hope it's beautiful there, and I hope she feels a million times better than her best day here on earth. She suffered for a long time, and I think she just finally gave up. She was tired of fighting the fight. She had something better waiting for her on the other side.
Her funeral is today, Monday, at 11 (the viewing) and 12 (the funeral), at Roger's Funeral Home in New Lebanon, with the burial following in Germantown.
Again, than you all for your love and support and prayers this past week.
She will be with me always.
