Yo ho ho! Today be Talk Like a Pirate Day!

Sep 19, 2007 08:30

AHOY! My very HOT icon this morning is in honour of today being International Talk Like a Pirate Day. I wouldn't mind being locked in the brig with either of those sexy swashbucklers -- particularly Capt. Jack! ;D

However, rather than take the time to "type like a pirate" (heehee) or hunt down those online pirate-speak translators that don't always work well anyway, I'm going to do two other things. First: a quote from the chorus of one of my fave CLASSIC country songs, Ladies Love Outlaws, recorded by the great Waylon Jennings and written by the little-known Lee Clayton. It's not about pirates specifically, but about "roguish types" in general. ;) It totally speaks to me -- and many other females, I suspect *grin*. For better or for worse, it is a timeless truism:

Ladies love outlaws, like babies love stray dogs.
Ladies touch babies like a banker touches gold.
Outlaws touch ladies somewhere deep down in their soul.

And now a couple of piratical-themed memes, some of which are generic, while others have a yummy Pirates of the Caribbean theme! Some of them even feature a lucky handful of my LJ friends! ;) Click below!

Sorry if the meme below is funky/off-center. I'm on IE7 with Win XP and if it's not looking right on this setup, it won't look right anywhere! LOL Anyway, although I don't like the name Prudentilla, I like the description of "myself", and I also like the surname Rackham, because it belonged to Calico Jack Rackham (another Jack!), who was very cool because he employed BOTH of history's most infamous female pirates in his crew: Anne Bonny and Mary Read! ;D

My pirate name is:

Mad Prudentilla Rackham

Every pirate is a little bit crazy. You, though, are more than just a little bit. You have the good fortune of having a good name, since Rackham (pronounced RACKem, not rack-ham) is one of the coolest sounding surnames for a pirate. Arr!

I love MemeGen because you can craft memes that randomly access your LJ friends list to fill in the blanks! (I've made some there myself, in fact.) This was one of the best "pirate ship" themed ones. I took the "Flame of the West" name from the title of a song by Big Country, my fave band, best known for their work in the 1980s. I think my piratical crew turned out very good -- for the most part! *sly snicker* "An' if yer not likin' yer place on me ship, I'll thank ye t' be walkin' the plank, scurvy knaves! Aye, those be yer only choices!" };D

This is the result of a meme I took last year some time. And no, I did not cheat on it just to get Capt. Jack as my #1 character. That's just how it propitiously turned out! I remember thinking I would probably get either Jack, or William Wallace in the #1 spot. However, between the two of them, I think I'm more like Jack than William. What think you?

You scored as Captain Jack Sparrow. Roguish, quick-witted, and incredibly lucky, Jack Sparrow is a pirate who sometimes ends up being a hero, against his better judgement. Captain Jack looks out for #1, but he can be counted on (usually) to do the right thing. He has an incredibly persuasive tongue, a mind that borders on genius or insanity, and an incredible talent for getting into trouble and getting out of it. Maybe its brains, maybe its genius, or maybe its just plain luck. Or maybe a mixture of all three.

I don't mind the results I got on the following meme, because it was actually the second-best result among all of them! LOL Plus, based on my personal experience and opinion, the best romantic relationships usually begin as "friends first" (for real), so being Jack's good friend isn't bad at all! Plus there's that part about how we "just have so much in common!" Ohyeah baby -- I'll show Jack something ELSE we have in common! *wicked giggle* See the meme below!!

He thinks of you as one of the guys! Sorry you just have so much in common! Being just friends isn't so horrible is it?

And here is that final meme, another good piratical find from MemeGen! With the results of this one, I rest my case. *smirk*!
