WSJ: First Amendment trumps Chick-Fil-A's critics.

Uh, WSJ? I know you're a bastion of conservative capitalism and all that, but I also know that you can read. 1A prohibits Congress from enacting laws restricting freedom of speech, press, religion, etc. Congress is not involved in this fight. There have been a couple articles about the Mayors of some cities threatening to blocks permits. If that is what the WSJ is taking about, then I agree with them. Government needs to stay out of this at all levels. Live by the free market, die by the free market.

However, if the WSJ is trying to tell people that they shouldn't boycott because free speech, then they're just being their usual corporatist bullshit selves.

The quote up there is word-for-word the article's headline. Make of it what you will.

Of course, there's a long-running fuss about companies whose owners have controversial political positions. Needless to say, the WSJ is the voice of the business world, and doesn't think people should get huffy about businesses because the owners have unpopular opinions.

Here in Boston, the first I heard about it was in the fishwrap, where the Mayor was hinting that he'd do everything he could to stop them from opening stores in Boston. Later, he retracted that to the idea he'd use the bully pulpit against them, which seems to withdraw the (extremely plausible) implied threat that he'd use the bureaucracy to block them. My personal assumption was not so much that the Mayor didn't like their politics, but that they weren't willing to donate to the Mayor's various favorite causes (which also help get him reelected).
