I am now married, and have been for almost a week. Sometimes it still doesn't seem real, heh. My wife is apparently feeling the same thing.
It has been a pretty damn fine week. The wedding went great - swift and smooth (apart from the best man - H's brother - fumbling forever trying to extricate the rings from their little bag). I even managed to keep a straight face, which was a relief after my hysterical laughter throughout the vows in the previous day's practice ceremony, which had *not* gone down well with the minister. I wasn't the only one, though. Few people could keep a straight face, especially when his pronunciation of the Lord's countenance sounded like 'incontinence'.
He decided (hopefully not as punishment) that the bride and poop-troupe had to walk along the outside of the church to get from the rear dressing room to the main entrance. Wearing just flimsy dresses, in subzero temperatures, in the snow. They nearly died. But it did give them all suitably solemn faces (if a little blue) for the ceremony. H said that was her 'something blue'.
The reception was a bit of a blur for me - the drive there was beautiful, with bright sun and sparkling snow, and I got to say things like 'orly wife' like in the Oedipus cartoon, and 'you're my wife now' like Papa Lazarou.
The reception itself seemed to be quite a success - for a cottage that claimed a capacity of 70+, with 44 people it was a tad over-cosy but it did make it seem all the more bustling. I think everyone enjoyed the food, especially one of H's aunts who claimed that the clam chowder was a spiritual experience. She could occasionally be heard shrieking "chowder! chowder!" for a while afterwards. The tower of Krispy Kreme donuts (we had decided that would be far more preferable to a traditional cake) also proved popular. Somehow twenty of them survived the event alive, and so H and I had the pleasure of finishing them off for a few days afterward.
The honeymoon was a welcome few days without any stress, hassle or socializing. We squeezed in a few 'dates' - mostly involving cinema (I recommend Pan's Labyrinth and The Prestige to anyone who hasn't seen them) and bowling 'like a cougar'. Being the romantic that I am, I also managed to get my new bride addicted to Tekken 5 on the PS2. So now all the characters are referred to by new names such as Jennifer Lopez, Vanilla Ice and Audrey Tatou.
