Galileo's Daughter - Dava Sobel
A remarkably wonderful read.  Most are familiar with Galileo, but fewer are aware of the great relationship he had with his eldest daughter, Suar Maria Celeste.  Spanning his lifetime, the book delves into his problems in dealing with his Catholicism in the face of his scientific experiments and theories, unpopular during his time.  Most specifically, it details his writings on the Copernican universe, with the sun being the center rather than the papally favored Earth, and it's perception in Italy and the world amongst his peers and the papacy.  With excerpts from letters written by his daughter, his life and that of his daughter is intricately detailed and richly portrayed.  It reads more like a novel than a history or biography.
