wow, I just spent an hour explaining how I think Dune fits into a classic orientalist pattern like Lawrence of Arabic and other white colonizer bullshit....and how the voice of history is, of course, white...although interestingly a white *woman*
Also how Muad'ib is interesting to us because he occupies this sort of mythic liminal space between two worlds--not defined and therefore powerful and dangerous...whee
