...Just popped into my head the other day. For as short as it is, I'm unjustifiably proud of myself for actually getting it written down.

Title: Naturals
Author: scarletts_awry
Rating: PG-13
Pairing: Mac/Hawkes
Summary: In 2x10 “Jamalot” Mac admitted that he’d been to a roller derby match while on a date. Later in the episode, he said “There is no girlfriend.” Hence, this ficlet.
Word Count: 592
Disclaimer: I don't own them, and it's a good thing too because they'd be too busy with the sex to have time for the crimefighting.

Authors Notes:
1) In answer to the fanfic100 prompt 26) Teammates. (ooh, pretty grids)
2) Cross posted to csi_ny_fic, csi_slash, and fanfic100

The past few months they’d burned through almost every sport the city has to offer.

If there was anything strange to it-and sports was a common enough pastime that Mac couldn’t bring himself to describe it as strange-but if there was any strangeness, it would be in the way Hawkes firmly avoided big professional games. They’d never gone to a Yankees or Mets game, will never see the Knicks, Rangers, or Jets. He suspected the intimacy of the amateur games and various subcultural sports appealed to Hawkes.

Which was how Mac found himself here, watching young women dressed like pin-ups on roller skates batter their way around an oval track.

No, by no means was Hawkes a conventional sports fan, but Mac was quite content to sit back and enjoy his enthusiasm. It all started back in the spring, shortly after Hawkes had formally requested transfer to the lab but before he had left the ME’s office. Mac had stopped by the morgue for the autopsy report on a stabbing victim, and the subject had taken a left turn to the sharp dance of fencing. That same evening, Mac had found himself at a match with Hawkes next to him, waxing poetic about “the hard elegance of an effectively executed corps-a-corps.”

The evening had ended with Hawkes dropping a quick kiss onto the corner of Mac’s mouth. He had been overwhelmed by the proximity of Hawkes’ body, and the warmth radiating between them had muffled all the reasons why kissing Hawkes back would be a bad idea.

Out on the track, a narrow space shifted open.

(always over and again firm lips meet his own and confirm that kissing Hawkes is a good idea, the best idea ever)

A narrow space shifted open and the jammer slingshot through a knot of girls.

“You see that?” Hawkes grinned but didn’t take his eyes from the action. “You have to admire the applied physics inherent to the such a move.”

“It is impressive,” Mac agreed. “Though I doubt that’s what most of the fans are here to admire.”

“There’s nothing wrong with admiring the female form. In motion or at rest, the human body is stunningly beautiful.” To a stranger it might sound like a rote answer, but Mac knew he was entirely in earnest.

Amused, he glanced at Hawkes. “So you wouldn’t mind if I admire the human body belonging to, say, Jane in DNA?”

“Of course not.” Hawkes still kept his eyes forward but leaned close enough that Mac felt the words on his cheekbone. “You can admire whoever you like, so long as I’m the only one who gets to take you home and fuck you senseless.” The words curled around and into Mac, brushing along his skin then sinking into the pit of his stomach.

Hawkes shifted, pressing his leg against Mac’s. Even through the layers of their pants, the contact sent heat up through Mac’s body. He swallowed and kept his eyes forward, on the women crashing into each other before them.

Now would not be a suitable time for an erection, though Mac doubted anyone in the crowd would notice, let alone suspect the source. He would never understand how Hawkes could make something sound so filthy and wholesome at once. Mac let out a little sigh, almost startled that he had been holding his breath in the first place. Even as it set him on fire, he relaxed into the simple contact of their clothed thighs-like it was all as natural as breathing. And with Hawkes maybe it was.
