I'm reading my e-mail as I sit here in a Starbucks in the middle of nowhere (or, more precisely, Redmond). Two distinct sets of friends are arguing about two distinct Geek subjects: one about the viability of the SciFi Channel and why it hasn't broken out, and the other about the
French and
Scandanavian protests over iTunes' and iPods' interoperability. I'm following these conversations with some interest, but I have almost nothing to say about them. And in fact, I don't know enough about either of these subjects to really add any kind of informed opinion or well-supported argument.
This afternoon, I feel firmly as though I am in among the geeks but not of them.

On other subjects, did I mention that one of my dresser drawers decided to fall apart a couple of days ago? My dresser is a mahogany bowfront bureau circa 1943, a beauty that I purchased at an antique furniture store about 5 years ago. I found a place in Juanita that specializes in antique furniture repair to get the thing fixed and delivered the drawer to them today. ($50 for the repairnot bad, says I!) In the meanwhile, I'll have to find somewhere to store my underwear for the next two weeks. ::sigh::

I have only one completely uncommitted day between now and the day I start my new job. So much for betaking myself off somewhere for a couple of days to unwind and relax. I will be defending this one day with my life. I shall be putting up facial mud, bath bombs, a bottle of wine and a good book against the day.
