Passages: Andreas Katsulas

Feb 15, 2006 07:09

Andreas Katsulas passed away on Monday. Though many other folks here have cited Katsulas' performance as Tomalak, it was through his performance of G'Kar on Babylon 5 that I really became familiar with—and quite fond of—him and his work. He was fortunate in that G'Kar may have been the most complex and nuanced character ever portrayed in a science fiction or fantasy television show. It gave him a treasure trove of material to work with, and it speaks to his wisdom and talent as an actor that he took full advantage of that richness and depth. After a while, when so much else on Babylon 5 wasn't working, I made sure to come back mainly for the development of the relationship between G'Kar and Londo Mollari; it was all just so much fun—and in some ways, so poignant—to watch.

Mr. Katsulas, thanks for 5 seasons of terrific television.

I also send a special shoutout to setsyoustraight on this occasion. I'm with you, girl.
