Torchwood Magazine LOL and Fail

I was flipping through the latest issue of Torchwood Magazine at B&N (which I've decided I love, btw, because it reminds me so much of the Teen Beat/Tiger Beat mags of my youth in where they take 500 words of real news and somehow manage to spin it into 50,000 words of copy, with the added short stories and comics) when I turned to the "Take Over ( Read more... )

I've never been able to work out what that relationship even is in canon, so I would be like "whut I do?"

IMO, in canon it was a lot of sex that we were supposed to think was love, but was born of Ianto's need and Jack's now compulsive need to manipulate others.

...which makes it about as healthy as any other relationship in the Whoniverse for the last several years...

Yeah, I could never work out how it was True Love when it seemed to be mostly shagging and the occasional kiss.

Jack says all the right things to be sweet and loving... anywhere but on screen. (Fanfic, audios, tie-in books, etc.)

Also, thinking it was true love was at least a bright spot in a seriously distopian show.

ETA: Otherwise, love was even more screwed up than in Who. Jack was loved by a woman who outgrew him and thinks he's his own son, Rhys loves a woman who lies to him and cheated on him and retconned her own confession, Gwen claims to love Rhys and banged Owen and retconned Rhys, Tosh loved Owen, who treated her like a doormat, and we don't even need to go into Round #37982256 of Owen's Issues With Women.

There's a power differential there that makes me uncomfortable which is why I never understood the "sparkly heart romantic" Janto fans. Dark, messed up and a little broken I get but other than that, not so much.

Jack could be romantic. Almost never on TV, but he was allowed to be other places.
