I'm am the queen of "ask me" meme's that I never get around to answering. Usually it's because when I ask I'm feeling peckish and then when it's time to answer my plate use typically overspilling with life. But, anyway, here are the answers to the
Ask Me Anything meme from mumble, mumble a while ago. (Why yes, I do have a deadline - is my procrastination showing?)
First up,
ljs asked: If you had a chance to go have coffee (or go have a few drinks) with any of New Who's companions, who would you choose?
Hmmm...It really came down to a dog race between Mickey, Jack and Donna. Not that the other companions aren't lovely but I think these three would be the most fun. For sheer lulz I'd have to go with Donna. She has a sharp wit and sharper tongue. I imagine after a cocktail or three we'd be hanging off of each other screaming with laughter.
Annon: What exactly *is* it you do with the newsletters?
Good question and the answer is - comparatively, not much! The editors are the real rock stars here and do all the heavy lifting. I started out as an editor with
Who_Daily and then helped staff
torchwood_three when
themonkeycabal realized that
torchwood_daily wasn't going to happen. Crazy woman. Somewhere during the process I suggested we move editor conversations out of email and into a comm thus
satellite_five was born. Since then I've had to give up the daily editing (do you guys have any idea how much time that takes? Seriously, if you read the newsletters send the editors hugs and chocolate) but stayed on to help keep things running smoothly. These days I help keep everything staffed, recruit and vet volunteers, mediate policy discussions and generally keep an eye on things to make sure there are no glitches or personnel issues. But, like I said, the editors are the rock stars and most days it's a self-running machine. Plus, there are amazing volunteers on board such as
beck_liz who takes on the herculean task of running a monthly schedule and
hhertzof who oversees the
soniclipstick staff.
Sounds sexy, doesn't it? *g*
Annon: Spill, you have a Whoverse OTP, don't you?
Other than Doctor/Tardis? Well, not really. I like reading a lot of different ships and would consider myself a multishipper but, at *this* point I would say my OPP (One Preferred Pairing) is still Doctor/Rose but probably leaning toward 10.5/Rose as opposed to straight Doctor/Rose. I'm not much into happy, fluffy endings but it it's gritty and real, I'm all over it. In fact, I'd say that about *any* fic. Make it plausible and I'll buy it. (Which is why I can't read sappy Doctor/Donna or uber-sparkly Ten/Martha. Umm..no.)
lordshiva asked: When and how did you get sucked into Buffy and how do you think this led inevitably to the Doctor?
I was a relative latecomer to Buffy and didn't really start watching until S4. To be honest, the premise of Angel intrigued me so I figured if I was watching that from Day 1, I might as well watch the mother-show as well. S1 of Angel was awful, but S4 of Buffy rocked it. During the hiatus I started watching Buffy from S1 and after that I was lost. I consider Buffy my first "official" fandom - in that I became part of a tribe. I started stalking discussions on TWoP and finally got the nerve to join and begin posting. From there I followed the migration to LJ (on Wednesday it will be six years..dude) and met tons of smart, funny, articulate people who became friends - even without the glue of fandom. And when these smart, funny, articulate people all fell head over heels for the new series of Doctor Who, well, how could I resist?
Annon: Do you use LJToys?
Sort of. I don't have it set up to track everyone who looks at my LJ but I do put the string of code onto any fic post I make to see how many "hits" the fic gets. I guess it's an ego thing to see if people are reading it. I mean, we all love feedback but I know I get lazy when it comes to FB so this is a way to feed the beast without leaving a "PLZ R&R!!!"
Annon: If you were a tree, what tree would you be?
What? No, seriously, what? Who asks these kinds of questions other than vintage Barbara Walters? I don't know.. something non-deciduous I guess since I loathe summer and tend to get a bit crispy. I'm a winter sort of girl.
Annon: Truth or Dare -
who_anon?
Well, at first I was all "Hell, no! If you've got something to say, man up". I like opinionated people who, you know, own it. *points to flist* Then last year I got an email from a "concerned friend" who said the newsletters were being mentioned, and I ignored it. But then it came up again, and then a third time so I decided to check it out. I still think a good chunk of it's pointless and boring (how many times can fandom discuss Rose v. Everything?) but I do like to see what's being said about the newsletter under the cloak of anonymity so I do take a look every now and again. Usually the newsletter comments are positive, sometimes it's stupid but it's almost always informative.
As far as the wank - well, it has nothing to do with being a member of the cult of nice and everything to do with "the cult of being too damned busy". I'd love to get involved in some of the more heated fandom discussions but that requires a time commitment that I really don't have. You just can't hit and run on hot topics! But FYI: I think posting epic fics consisting of 50/?, 250-word chapters is comment whoring; I think reviews =/= concrit or feedback and
cot_tossed was awesome; I LOL'd at the Livejournal fangirl/fanboy panel description; I don't dislike the pairing but find most J/I fic boring and dull; I like Classic Who a lot, but like New Who better - so far. (I still have a lot of Classic Who to go thus the caveat); I think grammar and punctuation count; I don't think the Donna mindwipe was in any way "rape" but might am uncomfortable with the lack of free-will when it comes to the metacrisis; I hope we see Martha again, ditto for Donna and Wilf; I will miss Ten like woah; I think Moffat can be an ass in interviews but am looking forward to what he's going to do; I hope we get more 10.5/Rose whether it's on screen or in alternative canon, ditto for Mickey; I think people have far fewer dogs in any fandom race than the "other" side supposes and...that's all I got. Did I miss any recent controversies?
Okay, procrastination time over!
*dives back into the grind*
