Writercon

Mar 13, 2009 10:52

We've been flying full steam ahead with Writercon. We've announced our tentative program schedule, our first round of guests and kicked off the first wave of fundraising in support of scholarships. Speaking of which, the deadline is almost here for scholarship applications so if you are considering going and need a financial boost, please submit your name. Everything is confidential and scholarships are awarded via lottery in plenty of time to make travel arrangements.

I honestly can't tell you how much fun this con is. I first attended as a fanfic fan rather than writer and was blown away by the smart, fun panels and workshops that touched on so much of what makes us a fandom in the first place. This year's con is going to be even more exciting because our scope of fandoms is so much broader but the "fandom" aspect is still the same. I know some people go to cons to see celebrity guests and get autographs but at Writercon *you" are the rock star and it's a chance for us all to get our collective geek squee on.

If you're still going "bwuh?" check out the website and follow the links to 2004 and 2006 to get a flavor for where we were and then look at this year's program schedule to see where we are going. Same awesomeness wrapped in a bigger, multi-fandom bow.

*tamps down squee*

Don't forget, scholarship deadline is March 15 and keep your eyes peeled for our next cool fundraiser. It will be a chance for writers *and* readers to get in on the action.
