Small Surprises

Nov 13, 2006 20:56

It had been several days since Storm had called, several days of thinking about it, wondering, deciding, changing her mind…

“Storm? It’s Amanda. I’ll do it.”

---/---

The phone was ringing, and whoever it was was a considerable lucky person to catch Amanda Sefton on Earth.

“Amanda Sefton speaking.”

“Hello Amanda. It’s Ororo Munroe, of the X-Men. I was wondering if I could ask you something…”

---/---

Limbo is a lonely place when you are the only human there. Demons do not make good conversationalists.

Amanda missed civilization. Yes, she enjoyed the challenge of ruling Limbo, but that didn’t mean she was happy to be alone all the time.

So when Kurt came calling, Amanda was thrilled.

---/---

It was not proper for the Mistress of Limbo to be anxious, but she was. She was more nervous about this than anything she could remember.

How long was this supposed to take? Two minutes. Better leave it a while…

---/---

It had been the same s always, innocent flirting that she and Kurt couldn’t help. It had been the same until the kiss. When Kurt touched his lips to hers, Amanda realized how much she needed him.

The morning after had been horrible.

---/---

“I’m so sorry, Amanda. I don’t think I can do this.”

---/---

Aaaaaand… two minutes. Crunch time. Amanda picked up the test… two pink lines. That meant…

Oh my god.

---/---

The X-Mansion was bright and airy, exactly the kind of place that Amanda usually liked. She was the X-Men’s new link to the supernatural and mystical. Dr. Strange was gone too often to be reliable.

Now she had to tell Kurt…

---/---

Jean Grey sat in the lounge, smiling at her husband. ~How do you think he will take the news?~ She asked Scott telepathically, having filled him in on her observations of their new resident Sorceress, who was now disappearing down the hall.

~Honestly? I’m not sure…~

---/---

“Hi, Kurt.”

“Hello, Amanda.” Kurt answered curtly, not facing his adoptive sister.

“There’s something I have to tell you. I--”

“No need. Storm has already told me you are staying.”

Amanda shook her head, even though he couldn’t see her. She walked around him until he had no choice but to see her.

“No. It’s not that. I’m pregnant.”
