Last night: fire, warm round full sky, moon, stars, venus at first? up that- fire warm, night cold, same face in same moon in different place- Ian told stories, movie reccs, very interesting stuff that I havent heard of or recognized before. And Himalayas mean 'snowy place'. And Rohtang Pass- or Rohtang bottle water that they sell- Rohtang means 'Pile of Corpses'. Haha, Pile of Corpses bottled water, how hygienic.
Ive decided that the 'yoga' in the morning aint yoga- its intense, knee hurting w the high lunge- hip even hurts- twist it after trying to raise my thigh? how the hell do you raise your inner thigh in a lunge like that? Its ridiculous. And cross leg push ups- Im gonna start doing those at the 'everyone picks 5 pushups for the class to do' warm up at CN. Wondering about cervical vertebrae and metatarsals; wheres my skeletal biology notes when I need them?
Unfortunately Batsuri visit isnt happening, its across the river and apparently has a beautiful temple that is mixed of Hinduism and Buddhism.
I realized its like Im in a totally different world then what Im accustomed to, well after all, I am. Asking VeeJay, the owner and manager of the Sangla camp we stayed at, "Who is your people" (a question originally posed by Hilarie) he replies "Everyone here", I say "No, I mean who do you identify with?" he says "The Kinnoauri tribe..." Interesting cultural note.
I also realize that my memory fuckin sucks, well Ive known this for awhile at least. Remembering is so hard for me, and this is the longest Ive gone without talking to Joe, excluding the bit of mess that happened last summer. It sucks. I want to have a better memory of people, events- grasping at things I cant recall.
Todays the last day in Sangla, so I did some laundry. Hope it dries before the overcast clouds 'explode' (Clouds here explode in August, cause of the monsoons get stuck around the mountains and build up, til they 'explode', and destroy mountain sides. They ruined the old Sangla camp at its high location that it was at, washed everything away, and if the staff hadnt climbed up a rock, and the dog hid underneath a big one, then they all wouldve died). Also, still have no bug bites, so Im stopping the malaria meds. Theyre just messing w some other ones, its retarded.
My roomate Katie is sick, and is handling it with an uplifting optimistic attitude. If I get sick I hope to handle it the same way. Im thinking I probably will, if only because the altitude changes so much. Now I need to clean the thermometer, she had 101F. Im much more comfortable being on my lonesome amid this beauty, rather than talk about drinking, and scholarly academic bull shit I save for the school year, or try to relate to people mainly my own age when there is so much more Im interested in- my surroundings.
Todays a day of realizations, cause I also realized, again, that Ive got to stop thinking that I know it all and cant be wrong.
As Im writing this the bird is whistling, soft and low, to shrill and high, long beat followed by two short ones, over and over again. The wind is blowing steadfast, but gently, and Im sitting on this wicker made chair; this is the peace I desire.
I wanted to take pics by the river, but Im not. Did CN there today, Katas 1,2, Pinans 1,2, tried remembering the katana kata, sai, what Ive learned of soft, and just some tai chi movement- but my footwork was definitely too quick and not deep enough stances. Made up some of what I thought was snake kata, just mimicking some of the movements cause they seem awesome fun, and what I remember of chinte. Now I am so, so, so sore from yoga and martial arts, and the blisters on my feet from Chitkul walk- ouch.
Its not about what I know and what I can learn, its about the group, and everyone's not an anthro major- the can learn and love it too. Wow, introspective
Dinner: pasta, love love love!!, pizza, shish kebab, veggie soup, something else, and these chocolate coconut balls of melting in mouth orgasmic goodness!!
Its cold now, will have an early night tonight. I want to go over Hindi, memorize, and learn from Tammy, Ian, Karlie, Paul, Ravi, Keep Bus Drivers- all speaking Hindi on some level.
