Healthy!

Here's a dose of irony for you:

I've been really health-conscious and thus revamped my eating habits and felt really good! And then I caught a cold.

Now I don't catch such things often but it's a friendly reminder that I'm not invincible as I often forget. It's a little my fault for overexerting myself last weekend. And on Sunday night when I did Yoga I felt my energy drain super fast and my throat felt scratchy. It striked overnight. How convenient that my boss is away for 4 days, though I wasn't exactly planning to spend the time chained to my room, but hey. I'm also much better now I think! Kicking the cold in under 3 days is the plan.

I've been eating "healthy" for the past couple years but no matter what you eat, you can always kick it up a health notch. In particular this time was glucose and cholesterol control. The following choices were made carefully by reading up on them and I encourage anyone interested to look them up (too lazy to post links). They are also subject to change when more research is done and better choices are found.

I start off mornings with some plain oatmeal and cinnamon, both good for reducing blood sugar and many other benefits. For lunch I've been having soup instead of delicious sushi, although I do plan to eat it regularly for the enzymes and fish oils. Since oats are filling, lunch can be had later and dinner can be a really small portion. I take a multivitamin with dinner. In a couple hours I allow low GI fruit with nuts/nut butters (yummm). Protein > Carbs. At night when I get snack cravings I have water with apple cider vinegar and cinnamon. It's a little gross but a great glucose reducer and appetite suppressor. I also have a few herbs and spices to make tea with!

Combined with Kundalini Yoga, personal Yoga and biking, and allowing myself to sleep in an extra hour (or two) instead of cutting sleep for work, and I've got a pretty solid health regime. Mental health always seems to win out but I think things are pretty balanced for now. Yay life!

happy, blood sugar, sick, glucose, health
