Hey hey hey what is this doing here? BEING AWESOME IS WHAT IT'S DOING HERE. Lovely prologue. One of my favorite things about AUs is seeing how the author changes the world to make just that little tiny bit of difference, and I love that this all hinges on one twisted ankle. These days, it's silence that keeps him awake is one of my favorite lines, and I love how you formatted this. It's a great tie-in to the GN and a great starter for the fic.

Ha! I'm surprised that anyone commented on this, given that I sneaked it in, ninja-style! (I wasn't 100% happy with it, but I ended up posting the damn thing so that I could get it out of my head and think about something else. It was originally much longer, but I pared it down a lot because the convoluted metaphors involving gymnastics and world politics made my brain hurt... And when all else fails, I just try to be concise.) Thank you. I'm really glad that Veidt's ankle works for you, because I spent an inordinate amount time wondering, 'Should I go with the 'for want of a nail' theme, or is that too simple and glib?' (Then again, I like the idea that we live in a stupid, random universe, and I always had Watchmen pegged as a bit of an Absurdist story.)
