Your home is supposed to be safe. The World continues to remind us that it's not.

Last year while staying at student accommodation near campus, i was lucky enough to room with an amazing American girl who was on exchange for 6 months. She and i hit if off instantly and quickly realized that we had each found a friend for life. Sure, there will be times where we will probably go for ages without talking but we know it's a friendship that can be picked up right away.

She's been living down at Fort Hood, Texas for the last 4 months or so with her boyfriend who is to be deployed to Afghanistan in January. She's been handling it as well as can be expected and i am in awe of her everyday. I don't know how she does it.

Today i checked facebook and on my news feed there was her status update about the whole situation at Fort Hood. I called her immediately and she says she's fine and that her boyfriend had been walking out of the building when he heard gunshots but thought nothing of it because it's an army base. He's safe and sound but his platoon leader and some of his friends are missing and she doesn't know any other details. 13 people are dead. The whole place has been under lockdown and she's nervous, just waiting for him to get back home already.

The whole situation is just heart breaking and tragic. All my thoughts and prayers go out to the people at Fort Hood, Texas.
