My RL is kicking into gear again. More like all the busy parts, hahahaha. COLLEGE. Yesterday was my first day this quarter. Protip: don't take a quarter off. Even if it was for financial reasons/not being able to apply to classes on time. GET FINANCIAL AID. Blah blah that's nice grandpa angela we know that.
Schedule looks pretty laid back this quarter for me. I have classes in the late morning-early afternoon now. It's a big difference compared to my early classes. I still get up at around 6 every morning but it's kind of nice to kick back at home for a while before making the journey to campus. I have a lot of time to get ready and even study.
My first class is Spanish, and I aimed for the same instructor I had last time. The class is... pretty darn puny. I think there might be 15 students? Wow. But anyway, I met two students who were in the same class last time and that was nice. It's a pretty sweet environment. BUT THERE WAS THIS ONE GUY. HE TOTALLY CAUGHT ME OFF GUARD. He looked like a complete druggie even in the way he walked and the way he talked and looked at everything like totally OUT OF IT and actually... he had amazing Spanish fluency. I was not expecting that. IT WAS THE COOLEST idk why. Man I am so pumped to learn more Spanish this quarter you don't even know. It's all coming back which is awesome. I'm gonna have two languages under my belt and no one's gonna stop me now.
And then right after that I have a linguistic anthropology class, which looks like it's going to be very similar to the cultural one I took fall quarter. I find it ironic that the instructor has a stutter. But she's cute. Anyway, yeah, language fascinates me and I want to learn more about it from an anthropological perspective. *v* It lasts until 1:25 so it is a pretty long class. But it only happens on Mondays Wednesdays and Fridays. Gotta... buy textbooks. Why so expensive...
But OH GODDD I do not want to stand in another line AGAIN. rrrrrrr The financial aid line took an hour to sift through. And then I had to go to enrollment services so they could fix my double ID number problem and get my social security right. THEN I had to march over to the tech center and get another class per mom's request, and there was not much available. I mean it. So now I'm taking an online study skill course. fff. "Learn how to be a student." "ok I hope I have this down already." But seriously, I COULD learn something from it. But it's 2 credits and that's enough to turn me into a full time student, so I'm not complaining. Better than a US history class I would give no fucks about. I love history, but if there's one thing I can't seem to stand? US HISTORY. AAAGH. I want to waste my social science credits on something else. I don't think I could sit through it.
And so, today I only have one class! Yaaay! But I still have to fight the FAFSA battle. And... buy textbooks. And also see what I need to do about that online class.
HERE GOES NOTHING.
And last weekend I helped Emily with her school's cherry blossom festival. Jeez it was so busy; I hardly had any time to do anything. And I'm an alumni! They were doing a maid cafe. Even when I left the room/booth for a bit to go see what the actual festival was like, I found myself wanting to help out with the fish game. %D She was in dire need of it! But it was fun serving cakes and everything, so I was cool just helping. But it was pretty tiring. Despite the other schools' efforts to isolate Kentlake from the rest of the schools (it could just be Kent Meridian's awful layout, but everyone suspects it's... out of petty feelings?? idk they always do this), Kentlake Japan Club did really well, I think. It really bothers me how the other schools seem to deliberately thwart Kentlake's success. They're so far away from the main festivities that they're in another building (while it's pouring down rain at night, might I add)- all of their booths but the fish game, and people often wondered, "hey, where's the maid cafe?". That's the report we got from other students, so we took to advertising. And this may not be a deliberate attempt, but they took okonomiyaki away from Kentlake and then wound up NOT DOING IT AT ALL. Which made my old sensei especially peeved. Why didn't they continue? "Because we thought it tastes gross." B|
B| Last year it was highly successful. Ran out of okonomiyaki in the snap of a finger. It was Kentlake's idea, of course. Any idea Kentlake has, another school tries to swipe it the next year. Sure, it's okay to let another school try something out for themselves. But to take the idea and not fly with it? ugh. It would have been nice to sell okonomiyaki. Now because of that, nobody gets to try okonomiyaki at the festival. ;_; Oh well. Like I said, despite the issues with other schools, Kentlake does well. Maybe next year they will get to do it.
