§18.2-422. Prohibition of wearing of masks in certain places; exceptions.
It shall be unlawful for any person over sixteen years of age while wearing
any mask, hood or other device whereby a substantial portion of the face is
hidden or covered so as to conceal the identity of the wearer, to be or
appear in any public place, or upon any private property in this Commonwealth
without first having obtained from the owner or tenant thereof consent to do
so in writing. However, the provisions of this section shall not apply to
persons (i) wearing traditional holiday costumes; (ii) engaged in
professions, trades, employment or other activities and wearing protective
masks which are deemed necessary for the physical safety of the wearer or
other persons; (iii) engaged in any bona fide theatrical production or
masquerade ball; or (iv) wearing a mask, hood or other device for bona fide
medical reasons upon the advice of a licensed physician or osteopath and
carrying on his person an affidavit from the physician or osteopath
specifying the medical necessity for wearing the device and the date on which
the wearing of the device will no longer be necessary and providing a brief
description of the device. The violation of any provisions of this section
shall constitute a Class 6 felony.

So many of you ask "Why Do you Care?" Others Say "Wearing a mask is a choice, choose not to do it" Some Say "This Law helps keep us Safe" "Only bad people want to hide their faces" "What kind of paranoid wing nut are you?" "What's the big deal?"
I Care because this law Is Discriminatory against people who cover their faces for personal reasons such as Religion, Scars, Emotional and psychological reasons.
I care because this is the government threatening you with a prison sentence for covering your face without a doctors note.
Now I can see the "Shouting Fire in a Crowded Theater" argument against wearing masks. But Most of those facilities are Private Property such as banks (Until Comrade Obama Seizes them for the people) Where they can post a Sign on the Door that says No Hats or masks. They can ask you to leave or unmask. Failure to comply now makes you a trespasser and you are in violation of trespassing laws. So this law is unnecessary.
Am I that Paranoid? In a world where video cameras on Toll Booths and stop lights mail traffic violations to your house, security cameras in every parking lot and hall way... satellites capable of tracking the movements of millions of cars at once... Facial recognition software that can take a blurry picture and come narrow down the identity to within 100 or so people base don Gov't Issued ID photo's we are all forced to get. Retinal scanning and fingerprinting technology becoming required for ID cards and Job applications. All of which puts some pretty intimate details of our person in the hands of the Government and the Large corporations who own it. A Liberal Politically correct regime that seeks to limit political speech, a conservative uptight minority which still considers homosexuality next to communism in its book of treason. (Ok LBJ and a few other Democrats were also Homophobes *Cough*Obama*Cough*Bidden*Cough*) so I can't simply Paint Republicans with that brush or Prop 8 woulda Passed in California since Every Democrat won.
Since the Anti-Sedition Act back in 1917 the government has proven that they really don't give a fuck about our constitutionally guaranteed individual rights and they will abrogate them in the name of Safety and security any time they can bullshit us into accepting it.
That is the world we live in... where the Government has the ability to track all of our movements and the influence to convince the people that slavery is in their best interest. Divide and conquer tactics to keep us stirred up against each other over issues of Race, Gender, Religion, Sexuality and Class so we don't band together in the common cause of individual rights and freedoms against an ever increasingly corrupt government.
So in that world. Yes I am that paranoid. Yes I want my right to conceal my identity whenever I see fit. If I commit a Real Crime by all means arrest me. If a property owner asks me to unmask I will... as I exit the building unless I absolutely cannot live without whatever is in that building.
That too is the Big Deal. No masks, What next? Requiring DNA samples to get drivers licenses? A nationally Issued ID card? Government studies on our spending habits? An implanted device that contains ID information, medical records and banking info and works as a GPS tracking device? All of these ideas are in the works or strongly recommended by those who would save us from ourselves and enslave us with fear.The Government tells us what to wear, what to say, where to smoke, when to stop and when to go.
