The clan gathered with solemn abandon.
In the circle we called the ghosts,
Left behind in the woeful passage of time
And I remember leaving to pray, to cry, to summon
Hope
Hope of years gone by.
And in the silence I hear the dancer and dreamer
Who long ago went before
They prompted, pleaded, taunted, and screamed
"Wake up, Wake up and dare to dream.
We've slept too long, and you the longest.
You've watched us wake,
And still you sleep, hiding in the silence of noise"
Delicatly dancing; the ghosts start to weave,
The dancer leading the Scarecrow as the dreamer sang
All the while the watching gods get up to leave.
For even they fear the dance that proceeds.
As the darkness turns to dawn,
Voices once loud soften,
To tell our darkest deeds.
And in front of those who judge I cower
For once I wilted a flower,
Because once I walked away from one in need.
Bewildered I stumble,
Not sure where I'd been.
And yet the monkey watches, worries and warns
Maybe the ways are unknown,
And maybe one more night you should sleep.
He watches afraid that I could follow
Footsteps left by brothers
Hoping that I wake unharmed,
Scared the nightmare continues.
Tonight I sleep once more,
Knowing eyes watching.
Dreaming of those who woke,
Hoping for what they'd bidden.
