Slashers on the Street
Host:
emmagrant01

Emma: hey this Emma Grant reporting live from the line party for PBS Sherlock party here at South by Southwest in Austin. We were first in line. I am literary standing here the very front of the line and there are tons of people waiting now. Steven Moffat walked right by me and I smiled at him and he smiled back and I said we are waiting and he grinned and I just about flipped the fuck out.

Emma: anyway so, it is supposed to open up in 10 min and we are still waiting here, still at the front of the line. There are hundreds of people here in line and they seemed shocked that there are this many people A. Are in this line and B. got here this early. And we’re like dude it’s Sherlock, seriously.

Steven Moffat:  I hope you can hear this, hello Sherlock fans I am in the middle of a very loud room, but let’s hoping you can hear it. Bye

Emma: Thank you! And, yeah, that was Steven Moffat you guys. Fuuuuck! Ok time to party.

Emma: Ok so I waited on this huge long line with Rachel. I was the first and she was the second and she is here to see Steven Moffat. We just saw Steven Moffat. Tell me how you are feeling.

Rachel: I just met Steven Moffat. It might be the forth-best moment of my life. Behind my marriage and the birth of two of my sons.

Emma: that’s awesome. What did you tell him?

Rachel: I told him that I thought Coupling was the best thing that ever was to go on television and that Doctor Who is second and I am hearing that Sherlock is third. So there you go. Top 3.

Emma: awesome, thank you

Emma: ok so now I am talking with Cathy from Washington and she says she got to meet Steven Moffat and you asked him a really interesting question. Can you tell us what you asked him.

Cathy: So I asked Steven if it would be possible, even though I know it is beyond his ability to get the shows to the United States sooner. And he laughed and he said I’d like to do that too.

Emma: so did he have a reason why it’s not happening or…

Cathy: it’s just there was a big laugheter and  ‘yah we would like it, we would like for it to come out earlier in the states as well.” So it definitely has something to do with the BBC and BBC America and US programming and all that crap.

Emma; Yah, interesting. Thanks!

Emma: Ok I am here with Melissa Anelli and she is here at the Sherlock Party and having a great time. So, you met Steven Moffat, right? What did you say, what did you do?

Melissa: well I don’t remember much, because I kinda had a fangirl attack on him and it has been a while since I had a fangirl attack. I was already I was going to tell him how much I love the writing and how much I love his shows. And about the cross-over between Harry Potter fans and Doctor Who and Sherlock fans and what came out was: Asdfghjkl Harry Potter. Hahah. So, you know, I hope he understood some of it. And I was telling him about leaky-news and they were both like write down the site, and we’d like to check it out and I said: we’d love to interview you guys and I said how do we get in touch and he goes: well I am on twitter. They are very approachable and it was cool. It was cool.

Emma: wow that’s fantastic. Thanks a lot!

Emma: Ok so I am here with Josh, what do you think about the party and did you meet Steven Moffat?

Josh: I did meet Steven Moffat. I think that party is amazing free beer until midnight, that’s all I gotta say. I mean it is always endearing to me when a bunch of nerds get either boozed enough or comfortable enough just to let loose to the music a little bit. And so I was watching the dance floor, cuz they’re still doing it. They are still doing it and it is only like 10 of them, just the letting loose. This absolutely meets my acceptations for what a party for Sherlock would be.

Emma: so when we were in line, you said something about how you wished Benedict Cumberbatch would show up. And I was like: oh my god I don’t think I could even deal with that. So he hasn’t shown up. Are you disappointed? Are you shattered? What?

Josh: I am not shattered at all. It is just that I live in Austin so it has been my experience with south by south west that sometimes you’ll go to a thing for a company or a brand and then there big player will show up. So like, last year I had a friend cuz I think it was to a Blindside party at south by southwest, last year or the year before,  and a friend of mine was at the gay clubs afterwards and they were like: “Oh I bumped into Sandy bullock at the gay club.” So it’s not uncommon for that to happen. But I didn’t get my hopes up too much. Because I know that he is filing Start Trek and that the other one is promoting The Hobbit, like Steven Moffat said. So I’m not heartbroken, but god it would have been awesome. I didn’t change my underwear today in case he showed up.

Emma: hahah, that is perfect. so this is slashcast so I gotta ask, do you ship john/Sherlock?

Josh: I mean…

Melissa: laughter, yes you do.

Josh: yes I do

Emma: says Melissa

Josh: I mean I do, I do. But not like officially. Like I sit back while I am watching Sherlock and I watch the sexual tension and I am like: oh that would be great, wouldn’t it? And it is funny because I have been seeing all the news about, what was it, CBS’s version of Sherlock Holmes called Elementary and they are casting Lucy-Lui as Watson. And someone made a comment about how you don’t need a female character to create sexual tension and then they linked Martin Freeman and my Cumberbun. And I was just like: that is absolutely true! You don’t. Because there is so much sexual tension between the two of them and it is just…I don’t know if it is the writing or the performance or the direction, but I love it. I live every minute of it.

Emma: and we all do, we all do. It is hard to watch this and not ship them I think.

Josh: it is absolutely hard to watch without shipping it. Because you just go: oh, just, just touch it, just, just touch him a little bit. It’s fine, just give him a kiss on the cheek, you know you want to.

Emma: exactly and many of us write things like that so it’s all good. Well thanks a lot. I hope you enjoy your rest of your time at south by southwest.

Josh: I am loving my time at south by south west. Thank you so much.

Emma: Ok, so that wraps it up for this slashers on the street this has been Emma Grant at south by southwest at the PBS Sherlock party. It was awesome. I got to meet Steven Moffat and just kind of freaked out and flipped out. And I got my series 2 DVD autographed by both of them. I will put a picture of that up on tumblr. And got to talk to lots of other Sherlock fans, a few people who were into the slash. A few people who said, well you know, no shit how could you not slash them. And a few people who were like: I never thought about that before, but now I am going to. Anyway it was really awesome and I had a great time and I hope you guys had a good time listening to this. Checking out.
