Khândogya Upanishad, Khandas 1-3

(note: I use none of the diacritical marks or alternate consonants in these notes)

If one knows the meaning of the sacred word Om (udgitha/pranava), the rituals have meaning, otherwise they are empty

Om is the source of breath. It is the sap (Rasa, the essence of the tree, what gives vigor to it) in your tree. It is taiji (except backwards, because the disparate parts of the union come back together) union of Rik (speech) and Saman(a) (breath)
When Rik and Saman come together, they are a couple, and couples fulfill each other's desires, so Om will fill all desires.
(Sexual Om)

Breath itself is a hunger. When you die, your mouth opens in hunger for that last breath it cannot eat.

The threefold knowledge (of sacrifices):
The vital breath (the Om syllable)
The oblations (the essence of the sacrifice)
The sacrifice itself

the Daevas tried to Meditate on Om, but he Asuras peirced each with evil:
the breath (scent) in the nose (pleasant and foul smells)
the speech of man (truth and lies)
the eye (the beautiful and the ugly)
the ear (what should be heard and what should not be heard)
the mind (good thoughts (what should be concieved), bad thoughts (what should not))

Then they try to pierce the breath (of life) (Om itself) and the Asuras are a mud ball hitting a stone, scattered wide

Vaka Dalbhya knows the secrets of essence, mouth, and speech, and could sing other people their wishes.

Om is the breath of life in the mouth, and meditating on it will bring you all wishes.

When the sun rises it sings Om for the sake of all creatures (kind of like Jesus/Tammuz?)
When it rises it destroys the fear of darkness (ignorance).
If you know this, you can destroy the fear of darkness (ignorance).

The Sun and the Breath of Life are the same.
Prana, up breathing
Aprana, down breathing.
Vyana/Rik/Saman/Om, speech (niether up nor down).

Om is the milk and bread of the spirit.
