Transit Subsidies
So this post from The Transport Politic discusses the rhetoric of "profitability" as it relates to transit systems. One justification provided for transit subsidy is that their are societal benefits in the form of social justice. Road Trip!
For me, the most exciting part of our upcoming move is the cross country drive. When I was 22 I took the summer off to drive around the eastern half of the country, and I have been wanting to do that again ever since. (7-1/2 years!) - Heathrow Airport gets a Personal Rapid Transit (PRT) system that kind of looks like a Star Wars Stormtrooper helmet. Around the world, people make jokes about how it'll never hit anything. (Incidentally, I don't really think it's the "world's first" PRT. But they're being pedantic about what makes a system PRT.)
