Writing, again

After an eventful and creative November, it is time at last to return to writing my novel. (And planning my wedding, and working, and hopefully getting a new job, and going to school, and...)

Today I finished notebook #5, and I'm preparing to finish typing up chapter 15, which is placed at the beginning of notebook #5. In the process of second drafting, however, I came upon an astounding discovery: Some major parts of the story suck. This includes the opening, the characterization of several main characters, some of the character conflicts and relationships, and so forth. I have some re-writing to do, and I need to decide if I want to do it now so that I'll be able to keep writing based on the new material, or if I should wait until after when I have a better idea of what exactly needs to change. I'm leaning towards the first, which unfortunately means that I'll have to spend time doing less of the fun stuff.

Another complication in the matter is the fact that I've been spending a lot of time thinking about the NEXT books I want to write. I don't think that's very productive. I need to prove to myself that I can actually finish a full book before I take on the challenge of writing an entire trilogy of them.

That's enough of a break for me for now. I think I'll go back to ending my posts with brief updates like I used to, so here it goes:

Vashtia is starting to learn the truth about executions in Yavna. She's also starting to suffer from cabin fever induced by being locked in the Domed City all winter long.
