So as I was driving my mom to the airport I avoided looking back at my mirrors as much irresponsible as it sounds. She was sitting in the back seat, with her sight fixated on me because of the last minute fight we had before leaving the house. Sometimes our personalities crash, but this time it was specially bad. She called me names for being an ungrateful and cold-hearted (ohyeah) daughter, to later burst into tears and shouts which I simply ignored to stand by my statement that she had no reason to call me names in the first place (plus I don't like to deal with her overemotional stuff since I'll get emotional myself)... yadayadayada we ended up making up pretty much because she didn't want to leave for two months knowing I was mad at her, and I didn't want to deal with her long distance calls feeling the resentment in her voice.
Bad stuff. Specially because it was something so insignificant to start with and caused such a drama just before she left. But well, that's not the case.
My sister was sitting in the passenger seat, and usually we make jokes about pretty much anything, but the mood in that car was overwhelmingly awkward thanks to my mom. Did I mention we made up? Yeh... the request usually takes overnight to reach my mom's dramaqueenism. I have to listen to music while driving, and because I couldn't use my iPod with my mom present since it's 'prohibited' by law, and her saints, and guardian angels (and I can't also take any highways or go over 45 mph) I decided to turn the radio on just to keep the car for being swallowed by that void. I'm not fond of radio stations in South Florida, and because I wanted to keep my mom quiet I tuned her radio station, you know, that one with hispanic love songs playing all day long which I know by memory I-really-don't-know-how. The last five seconds of a song came through the speakers, followed by the jazzy intro to the DJ's intervention...
Sometimes I come across some incredibly fateful moments that keeps me wondering about a question I hear often from other people but I refrain from asking it myself. It goes like this:
'WHY GOD WHY?!'
"...Let me tell you a story I read a couple weeks ago. In a forest located in Northern United States, there was a fire that destroyed acres and acres of valuable habitat for the animals in that area. By the time the rescue team arrived everything was turned to ashes. They divided themselves into groups to study the area, and a man in one of these teams found something very unusual in a little hole in a tree: A perfectly still bird, carbonized but without the slightest sign that it tried to escape that pandemonium..."
Cho: looking away -> o_o o_o <- Sayi: just driving
*The DJ continues with his story with the most relaxed voice EVER*
"The man stared at the dead bird, and when he was ready to walk away he heard an acute sound coming from behind the little carbonized bird. Doubtful at the very beginning, he ended up removing the dead bird only to find a little nest, with two baby birds crying out for help. They were perfectly fine even though their whole habitat was destroyed. The man stayed in shock for a minute... and then it hit him: The ashed bird in his hand was the mother, who died exposing herself to the fire in order to protect her two babies from certain death"
oh, nooowaaay -> ô_o ._. <- shutupshutupshutup
"Can you imagine the heroic scene?! The whole wood burning up in fire! Everything hectic and hopeless! The baby birds crying, fearing for their lives and then the mother appears: "I'll protect you! For I'm your mother and I'll sacrifice myself for you my beloved children!!"
sdfygusdkgfdsfsd -> x_x @_@ <- I'LL CRASH THE @#$#@ CAR I SWEAR I WILL JUST MAKE HIM SHUT U-
"...So my dear listeners, do you have your beloved children to love and sacrifice yourself for? Next time you can, make sure to hug your children and let them know how important they are for you and how willing you are to give your life and everything from them, because all your sacrifice will be rewarded, since you'll induce love and understanding in your household..."
We went to pick up our cousin, who was going to accompany us to the airport because my mom doesn't believe I'll make it back on my own. Surprisingly enough, she didn't say a word about that incredibly opportunistic anecdote by that sunuvabitch DJ who almost made me lose it on the way to pick up Natali. She stepped out of the car and went into my aunt's house to say goodbye to her. Meanwhile in the Sayimobile, my sister and I didn't need to say anything even though the whole ride we remained in silence, and because shouting on the inside couldn't suffice anymore we just went through a 15 minute laughing session while we waited for our mom to come back. I can't remember last time I laughed almost to the point of ...peeing myself (oh god I ended up doing that in a couple of memorable occasions...). Maybe when Light recorded himself saying that part of the IsumixLight fanfiction... mmm but this time it was 'for realz'.
My mom's still a little resented, I can tell by... every time she calls, but I guess I'm just a difficult daughter to deal with.
Oh I don't know how will I survive once Malena leaves for Ithaca again (beside dealing with my mom, I need someone to kill the roaches for me in case they appear)
