'Twas the night before Eid...

Ah, the sound of fireworks booming across the sky. In Malaysia that can only mean one thing: A Celebration! We say goodbye to the pious and abstaining Ramadhan and usher in the victorious Syawal. Even after all these years, nothing beats the very end of Ramadhan, when you conquered you appetite and overcome your nafs in the name of Allah =D

It being the last day of fasting and tomorrow being Eid celebration, all of my Muslim colleagues at Unit 1 already cabut, leaving me alone to man the counter in the morning shift all on my lonesome (Yoke Ping works on the noon shift alone as well). Although it was very busy today I had a relaxing shift answering customers' inquiries, especially since most of them are extra nice today (maybe in the spirit of Eid?). But it's very nice to have customers you serve say complimentary things like "Your store has so much more books that MPH and Borders" or "This is my favourite bookstore!" I had one customer especially said to me "You are so helpful, thank you!", which definitely made me end the day in a very good mood and chase away the dark clouds lately away. Honestly, it's easy being helpful when your customers are nice as well.

For breaking fast we went to San Fransisco Steakhouse buffet and dude, I've never seen so many meat! Lamb! Beef! Chicken! Salmon! That crunchy unidentified meat stripes in salads! The only meat I don't see is pork (the SF Steakhouse in Malaysia is certified halal). And the desserts were great as well. I tried not to stuff everything at once, but man it beats hotel buffet any day.

Tomorrow we're going to Masjid Wilayah for Eid prayer, the most beautiful mosque in Kuala Lumpur, imo. Will post pics tomorrow.

Selamat Hari Raya to my Muslim f-listers! Don't choke on your ketupat! XD

P/S: Yes, I'm aware of the Qur'an-burning ceremony to commemorate 9/11. To which I say, how moronic. The pastor should really read Pratchett's "Carpe Jugulum" in relation to holy books and its position in faith. I love, love Angelina Jolie for speaking out against this moronic act, as well as going to Pakistan to get the world's attention on the people's plight. For the record, I don't condone ANY book burning, be it Qur'an, Bible, Torah, etc. It disturbs my bookseller's instinct.
