Why yes, I have been sick and almost dying. That's why I haven't updated for a while *beams* Okay, seriously though, I've had fever and food poisoning. Chronologically, in fact, I had a fever, but before that had a chance to incapacitate me, I ate something at the foodcourt that rendered me vomiting and purging for two days straight. Food poisoning feels like shit; I don't recommend it to anyone. And THEN when my stomach managed to clean itself the fever virus went all "Hello, remember me?" and strike back. What a sore loser.
Of course, I've been busy with work and all, but that's par per course of my life. Way better than teaching I can tell ya that. I really DO enjoy my job ya know. I complain about it, but who in this wide, vast world never complain about their job? I bet the president sometimes wake up and thought "I have had it with these people all going ME ME ME MY PROBLEM. What about me? What about what I want?"
Anyway, recap of my so-not-fabulous-life:
♥ The Lost Symbol is out in paperback. Oy you people, we need to get rid of like, 900 copies of that. Go to Kino and TAKE IT OFF OUR HANDS. And take Lacuna too while you're at it.
♥ In protest to the shit that is The Last Airbender, my sisters and I watched Avatar the Legend of Aang marathon over the last four weeks (and re-watch it again on Nick. My mom wanted to be annoyed, I know, but even she was engrossed in the series. Just now she totally asked "Apa jadi? Aang menang ke? Zuko mati ke?" to which I answer "Maaaaak, ni series kat Nick la, takkan mati punye!"). I have to say, I completely forgot how much I adored this series, the beauty of its creation and how it is possibly THE best shonen/adventure animation I've ever watched. EVER.
♥ Thanks to Avatar Extras, I found out that Mike and Brian based Zuko's character's journey on Buddha (!) and in the episode "The Western Air Temple", when Zuko appealed to be part of the Avatar Team, the Avatar Extra bubble said that "This is the end of Zuko's Hero's Journey." Seeing that excites my Campbellian geeky heart and now I wanted to write an academic paper on the parallel between Buddha and Zuko and how they follow Campbell's monomyth and when, I ask you, did a cartoon inspired me to write a literary paper?? NONE, I tell you.
♥ One of the perks of working in a bookstore is that if you're helping with the writing of the review for our store's booklet (the Bookmark), you can pick a title and loan it from the store. In other words, FREE BOOKS!! Okay, free book, as in one book permonth. But still, FREE. This month I'm reading Light Boxes by Shane Jones and...I don't get it *hangs head in shame* Not to say that it isn't lovely, but it is so surreal and steeped in symbolism that I must research it further before I write my review. Well, that's the hazard of being in charge of the Literature section. BUT, free books!!
♥ Got post from
erzebet ♥ ♥ ♥ I love it thanks so much!! Such a lovely painting! Will post picture of her painting once I fit it into a frame.
♥ Bought and read Catherine Webb's latest Horatio Lyle book and OH. MY. GOD. I adored it. Every word, every paragraph reminds me of why I adored this series, the characters and GASP LYLE DID I HEAR YOU ADMITTING TO YOUR MA THAT YOU LIKED SOMEONE?? I'm so proud of you, you socially-constipated awkward man you ♥ ♥ And you should've known better than to try and take control of your household. Tess and Tate totally got you whipped! I should write a more in-depth review about this series. Webb keeps getting better and better with every book. Please let not this be the last in the series ;_;
♥ And finally, a shout out: Happy Birthday
mona_ahmad ! A year older! Why, you don't look a day over 5! XD
