Remembrance

On Friday I managed to get completely caught up on all podcasts, and even listened to an extra chapter of my audiobook, which was great except Friday is meant to be radio day and I forgot, so I feel like I cheated! The boy actually went into school on Friday, which I was really happy about. I'm out of the habit of picking him up though but thankfully I remembered last minute!

On Friday night, we sat down to watch It's a Wonderful Life, which is a Christmas tradition for us. Usually we leave it until the last minute but I'm glad we managed it early this year.

Saturday morning I had to get up early for Messy Breakfast. I did, however, get up too early. I thought we needed to be there for 8:15 but it turns out it was 8:45! I wasn't involved in leading this one so I could just turn up. The food was good, and the discussions/worship were deep and thought provoking. I wish more people came to this, although that would mean less scrambled egg for me! We talked about remembrance, which is obviously a theme across the world this weekend.

I came home and Katie was really struggling. Nephew would have been 18 this week, so it's going to be a sad time for us. She went to bed while I did some housework, still reflecting from the morning's messy breakfast. The boy suddently got stressed because he'd lost a switch game, so I spent the rest of the day until the early evening going through every one of his drawers to try to find it. I didn't, although I found two other switch games.

My tidying was interrupted in the evening because the boy invited me downstairs to watch "Mitchells versus the machines". I was quite touched. He'd remembered I was interested in it from some kids watching it last weekend, so he'd asked his mum if we could watch it. It was a really good film too, I could relate.  After the film I wrote the intercessions for the next day's service.

Sunday morning was the church remembrance service. It was earlier than our usual service and I got up too late to have breakfast. I also had a big bag of books to take to church, and it was raining and some of the service was outdoors, so I wanted to take some umbrellas. I needed to go to the post office too to buy a poppy, so I was struggling with this big heavy bag and three umbrellas all the way to the post office and then to church.

Church was PACKED! I got there 15 minutes early and it was already full. It was a lovely service though, especially with the scouts paying their respects at the memorial. It was very reflective.

I came back, tidied the kitchen and then went to finish off the boy's room. By the time it was finished it looked amazing. I wish I'd taken pictures. Hopefully I'll remember tomorrow before the boy messes it up!
