a breath of fresh air

So last week I escaped to Calgary to visit my sister, my extended family and attend some high class performances. And I took a bunch of pictures because Kai told be to. I only really took concert pictures, because they were AMAZING, bear with the blurryness.

So my family used to drive to Alberta every summer since i was a kid because my mom grew up in this tiny town just north or Calgary. But Carlin's been living in Calgary for like 4 years and i've never gone to see her or my grandparents or cousins in FOREVER. So it was about time to go.

Airo-port

Arctic (-6 degrees) trek to the liquor store

who didnt even ID me!! no fun

So I planned the trip so i could see Broken Social Scene on the tuesday 15th. So i booked my flight for the saturday before. Turns out Bedouin Soundclash played at my sisters school (U of C) the night i got there! BONUS!

Opening band was called The Junction. The were SO good.
The basically sounded like they look.

I had already seen Bedouin Soundclash play at this teeny tiny stage at warped tour with like 20 people in the crowd. But this was AMAZING. Lights, huge speakers and screaming pre-teen girls. whut-whut

FASTFORWARD through three days of familyish food, farms, scrabble and
ping-pong.

To Tuesday! yaaaaay

The Most Serene Republic opened for BSS but I only caught one and a half songs of their set. They were good tho! Indie to the very extreme. I wanna see them again.

loved the flailing bassist

But i really regret not getting a picture or the lead singer rocking out with a mop and swingin it every whichway. whichway. Go to whichway and pick up some HEFtybags.

These pics did not catch it. But the scene at this concert was hilarious. Never seen that many guys in the bathroom fixing their hair. And i've never seen people acctually practising the indie *CLAP-CLAP* thing between bands.
el oh elle

Pretty much one of the best bands i've ever SCENE.
or seen live.
Seriously!

Sleaziest man alive

After the show I made Carlin take me to a flippin bar. Since we had barely taken advantage of my legality. So with not much going on on a tuesday night we went to this little bar called Ming's. It was hilarious. It was really nice, dimly lit with all this leather booth-type seating. There was a giant portrait of Mao over the fire place and while we were there they played Bright Eyes, Wilco And The Shins. funny.

We all had maritinis named after famous commies

Carlins friend Patrick brought his little brother in order to force a friendship apon us.

He was pretty cool, he ordered Colt 45 so they brought him a 40 in a paper bag.

They told be to get Hoegaarden beer, i didnt know what it was.

note the glass is HUGE

Kay and in the bathroom, along with the communist mural was THE XLERATOR!
Holy shit it blew air SO HARD. I was intimidated, i could barely keep my hands under it.

Next day = breakfast at the Galaxy Diner
