Tattoos, etc.

I've been really thinking about tattoos again. Last year I had the idea of commemorating my grandmother with a tattoo of a cat clock, the kind with the moving eyes and pendulum tail. She had one all through my childhood, and she gave it to me for my 12th birthday. It is still on my bedroom wall. she had tons of cats. She was always taking in strays. At times, she had six or seven, and they were all very well cared for. The love of cats is something we shared, and something I will always associate with her. I thought about getting the tattoo really big on my upper thigh, but the more I thought about it, the more it started to bother me. Just... the idea of having it there during "intimate" moments kind of freaked me out.

But I started thinking about getting it on my calf instead. It would be smaller, but the shape of my calf is ideal of the shape of the tattoo. It would be further from, umm, my crotch. But It would also be more visible to me in the sense that I could just curl my leg up in my lap as I am inclined to do and look at it. I very much like that idea, and if finances permit, I might get it done on August 15th, the anniversary of her death.

I also decided that I want to get the words "Ever Dream" tattooed on me somewhere; right now I'm thinking my upper left arm. It's the title of a Nightwish song, but it wouldn't be so much about the band for me as what the song and the words themselves represent: my romantic side, my tendency to daydream, the lucid dreams I have at night, my creativity and inspiration. It's the constant opalescent stream moving through my subconcious which makes the world kind of magical; a moon which waxes and wanes but never dissapears completely. It's very symbolic for me.

And of course, I eventually want to get my dragonfly. My upper right arm is reserved for that. But it doesn't feel like quite the right time for it yet. Also, I'm going to be insanely picky about the design.

But the cat clock and "Ever Dream" are pretty-much definites for me, hopefully within the year. If only I didn't owe so much fucking money right now. I am up for a raise next month. We shall see.

I started working on my GIA course material tonight. It's, umm, pretty intensive. I finished the first two chapters and I'm halfway through the third. I am going to have to go back and read through things again to absorb everything. The second chapter was about geology, which I find very fascinating (the idea that surface of the Earth is in constant motion, constantly destroying and rebuilding itself, and that gemstones are born of this process), and the third chapter starts to get into chemical structure of gemstones. I know I can do this, though. I am a highly intelligent person. It's just that this course will put my intelligence to work a bit.

Fuzzy Bastard (or Lupin, as Rebecca has named him) seems quite happy in his new home. He already has this attitude like, "I own the place." Unfortunately, he has worms. I will spare everyone the story of how we discovered this fact, but, umm, it wasn't pleasant. A vet appointment on Thursday morning should remedy the situation.
