By rigorously applying our criteria, we narrowed down our venue choices to five, in no particular order:
1. The Garden Court Hotel in Palo Alto
2. Allied Arts Guild in Menlo Park
3. Elizabeth Gamble Garden in Palo Alto
4. The Cypress Hotel in Cupertino
5. and the Women's Club of Palo Alto.
I'm so glad, because I was overwhelmed by the dizzying and highly variable selection in the Bay Area, but prioritizing certain things (like keeping it close to home) and letting go of some expectations (a requirement to have the ceremony outdoors) helped us out.
The preliminary budget for all five appears to be in the same ballpark, which is good-- none of the above stands out from the other yet, financially.
Aesthetically, the Garden Court and the Allied Arts Guild are my #1 choices. Gamble Garden is the most sentimental. The other two are more generic but are known for being pretty accommodating.
Time to visit a few more places today.
UPDATE: Cypress Hotel was a dud. But we may have replaced it on the list with the Historic Adobe Building in Mountain View, which would be dirt cheap and super convenient.
