Well, since a few other users recently posted about buying the new album Phantom Punch by Sondre Lerche, I decided that I would mention a few things that I've been thinking about his music. Don't get me started on the trouble I had trying to find the damn album the day it came out though. I went to three stores before settling at Barnes and Noble.

Anyway, I think Sondre's biggest challenge in songwriting has been his lyrics, probably due to the fact that English is his second language. Often his lyrics are confusing or nonsensical.

"Today I'll sleep in this itchy gutter" - Living Lounge
"...cause I'm optionless and turkey-free and blind" - Two Way Monologue
"...frightens the spiders inside me" - After All

Personally, I think he believes the word "itchy" to mean the same thing as "uncomfortable". He once claimed that the Norwegian language is "too itchy for singing (if you can say that about a language"). While he is, on one hand, good at composing nonsensical (yet very interesting musically) lyrics, he is also good at using words that we take for granted in the English language. He has songs entitled "You Sure Look Swell", "She's Fantastic!", and, a personal favourite, "Well, Well, Well".

"When I see you baby, its well, well, well!
"When I see you baby, its a-okay!"

Is Phantom Punch my favourite Sondre album? I don't know just yet... I'm going to have to listen to in another 20 or 30 times to develop a solid opinion :D I do love it, but I love the others too. I think this one is probably the most likable to new listeners though, so if you don't have any of his CDs yet, try this one out.
