Graduation Day

Dec 15, 2007 18:40

First things first; I am now a college graduate.

Friday; I turned in my final paper on Fueled By Ramen. I think it came out great. Not a bad little paper on the new music business model. Funny, I actually dug out an old paper I wrote my sophomore year on how I wanted to do something in the music industry. Ha.

My Dad's family came into town and we had dinner in the RV. I felt bad cause we were late, but the RV park was 45 minutes south of us. We had a nice little dinner and caught up. I got a few graduation presents too. my Grandma gave me a sweet stereo, my steph-mom gave me some towels and my Dad totally hooked it up. He have me his '72 Gibson Semi-Hollowbody Vintage Jazz Guitar. It's a beautiful guitar and I'm glad to add it to the collection. This guitar will be going nowhere near Tia's.

On that note, my Grandma came to Tia's. She loved it. A week ago she was telling me she had pain and might not be able to make it and last night, she insisted on not missing the opportunity to meet my band and hear us. That was awesome. The show went really well. I still love it.

Three hours later (literally) I woke up and got ready for my college graduation. I wish someone would break the cap and gown tradition, because that is the stupidest thing I have ever worn, but when I got to the graduation and everyone else was wearing it, it was awesome. The ceremony went really well. It was awesome to hear the speeches and walk across the stage. Definitely a memorable experience. When we turned the tassle, I heard some guy almost cry behind me; "I did it! I'm free!". It was great.

After the ceremony we all had dinner together. It was really great. My entire family sat and ate together in celebration of my graduation. It was a good feeling. After lunch, I passed out and tonight: Channelside.

Personal Reflection:
So I moved to USF in August of 2003, not knowing anyone. I write about my appreciation of my college experience all of the time, but only because I feel so lucky. You do learn a lot in school and more sometimes than your grades will give you credit for. I feel like I'm a graduating with a BA in Communication and a minor in Working. Every roommate, apartment, individual course, job, professor, show we played, show we booked, band I've met, girl I've hung with, friend I've made, troublesome situation I avoided, troublesome situation I didn't, bar I went to, place I've traveled, assignment completed, bill I've struggled to pay and any other situation that has come along has been a part of the learning experience. I'm glad to say; I loved college and I'm now a graduate looking forward to what's next. Thank you University of South Florida for an amazing college experience.
