It's my last month on the west coast before returning to the frozen prairies. I'll be flying back on Jan. 2 and teaching Jan. 3. I have mountains of things to pack. How could I have bought so many books? Where did all that paper in all those fat file folders come from? Why does everything weigh so damn much?
Brutal!
--Powerbook! My baby's back (after almost 2 weeks)! Lovely new hard drive and as far as I can tell, all my data saved. This Applecare certificate holder is a v. happy camper. And a bonus: the thing performs more quietly and quickly--the difference is noticeable. The old hard drive must have been wonky to start with, or going downhill gradually.
Many thanks to you kind flisters who suggested various ways to do back-ups. I'm getting a peripheral Firewire drive first thing next week.
--Finished my first two ed technology courses! That's it 'til January, when I start another one (self-flagellation, anybody?). Minor titch: got only 88% on my research paper; was hoping for at least 90% (but had to concede grudgingly as to the justice of the instructor's critiques ... hmph). Since it could be weeks 'til I hear the verdict on my hyperfiction project* (the instructor's weeks behind on his marking), I'll just sit back, relax, and enjoy the holidays.
--Have just enjoyed a full day in beautiful Victoria BC on a mini-break with my husband. Activities include but aren't limited to eating, cutting a big swathe into our Christmas shopping, and walking everywhere, oohing-ahhing at lovely Christmas lights and displays while encountering legions of buskers, unexpected brass quartets, and sidewalk artists. This small city really knows how to do Christmas.
Ready, set, and determined to put up Christmas lights at home later this weekend.
And maybe even do some Christmas cards. Good lord, that'll shock our friends tremendously.

*Shall probably upload part of the above-mentioned hyperfiction project to a brand new Savageland web site and give the link here once it's ready. I haven't been able to write any fanfic this fall (sob), but at least I'm still putting one word after another.
