Poetry for the Twisted

Whew! I've finished and submitted one of my two term papers, an analysis of the "emotional work" involved in teaching online. My other instructor's given me an extension for the second project. R-E-L-I-E-F.

Some mistranslated lines furiosity posted on her LJ pushed me into considering how random arrangements of words can sometimes make a weird kind of sense. Like this well-known example:

Make the Pie Higher

I think we all agree, the past is over.
This is still a dangerous world.
It's a world of madmen
And uncertainty
And potential mental losses.

Rarely is the question asked
Is our children learning?
Will the highways of the internet
Become more few?
How many hands have I shaked?

They misunderestimate me.
I am a pitbull on the pantleg of opportunity.
I know that the human being and the fish
Can coexist.

Families is where our nation finds hope
Where our wings take dream.
Put food on your family!
Knock down the tollbooth!
Vulcanize society!
Make the pie higher!
Make the pie higher!

It's almost entirely (but not 100%, as some sites claim) composed of documented quotes by George W. Bush. This analysis of it is also fun.

I'm sure someone's already thought of taking random sentences out of obscure books, like a 1950s manual for preserving laundry-lint or something, and composing "poems" . . . and then had them published! Wouldn't surprise me at all.
