Money, Money, Money

Today I was talking to my family, just for few minutes because I was busy and at m office working. In those few minutes I realized it is so hard to talk to my family for money matters. Whenever I talk to my Mom for my day, I could talk to her for hours but today she wanted to talk to me about money matters and she couldn't. She just handed the phone to my sister.

Ok, from the beginning (background of my financial history): I am from a middle class family and I live in a joint family. My father is the eldest of all sons, so he is responsible for all the financial expenses in the family. Everyone else just sit backs and eats. But my father's work is in a rut for more than a decade now, maybe more than 15 years. His business was very good in the beginning when I was kid, but in middle 90's it is going to drains. He is deep in the debts and he has an avid gambling problem, which doesn't help either.

Just imagine, your business is in loss, you gamble most of your money away and you have to feed a family of 20 people. Some of my uncle help with some household expenses but not enough and I have seen my family fighting over trivial family and food issues since childhood. With time the expenses grew and my father is not unable to pay for household expenses and he is too proud to accept that he cannot take care of the family. My uncle and aunt know all the situation but they do not want to spent a penny (bless them).

So, now back to me, I had a nice childhood, I was not fed with silver spoon or anything but I was not devoid of basic things either. So all in all I had better childhood than most people. So I grew up to be money conscious person, I know it does not last and I am not miser but spendthrift in better words. I do not waste money and try to save (but fail most of the time).

I have taken student loan for my higher education and now I have more than £20000 of debt over me. I have just started my job and I have to pay my debt, send some money home because my Father's business is closed and also live my life. Talk about Credit Crunch and financial crisis.

Back to my phone conversation, my mother wanted to tell me that she need money from me, but she couldn't because she felt bad. So my sister told me instead about the family's current financial situation and that they need money. I felt so bad for my mother. Why, she felt like she could not tell me herself. Maybe she felt like she is a parent and provider and she could not ask me for anything. But don't she know me at all. I want to help my family, after everything they have done for me, it is my chance now to do things for them. I feel so proud that they had made me so responsible, self-sufficient and independent that now I can help them.

Dear Maa and Papa,

I love you and I thank you for everything you have done for me. Ever since I was born, you gave me everything, all the toys, my favourite dress, books, food and most of all you gave me best education and values. I cannot even imagine anyone who got more love from their parents than me. I know sometime I act like an idiot and fight with you guys, it is just because I have bad temper and I am a moron. But I love you and respect you more than anyone in the world.

And this is my time to take care of you, take your responsibility as you have taken care of me all my life. I need you more than ever now because I am so far away from you alone here. Please don't feel bad just because you need anything from me. I wish I could give my life to you, money imean nothing to me.

I will make you proud of me, take care of you and love you forever.

Always Yours,
Me

So, I have to pay my debt,  send some money home and live my life to the fullest with whatever money I make in this job. And hopefully the project I am doing with Y will workout and after this contract I will get a good job.

Amen
