to paint or not to paint; and good room-separation curtains

I'm moving into my first "adult" (no roommates, no closet-sized studio) apartment soon! I'm really excited to do things like buy furniture, and I've collected so many prints, paintings, and drawings over the years and will finally have the space and the finances to do them justice in my home ( Read more... )

i'd paint the baseboards white, personally - it would look amaaazing with yellows and oranges. but i guess you can't paint them? because of their current color, there's not a lot you can do with on the walls - maybe just leave them white and have some bright colors and rugs and stuff.

regardless, SERIOUS apartment envy, dude.

I don't really have suggestions because I'm mainly here for ideas.... but I just wanted to say I love the place! So much style! Where do you live?

Maybe you can watch that video that somebody just posted up about colors. It was very interesting and helpful!

I was just going to write and ask if that's in Baltimore. It sure looks like a lot of Baltimore apartments to me.

Personally, I'd play off the grays and blues and go semi-monochromatic. SO much sauce potential.

Wow! That space is gorgeous. Where are you located?

You're very lucky that you don't have to repaint when you leave. That's practically unheard of! (At least in my experience.)

I agree that painting the baseboards would be nice. It would add a POP to just about anything that you put on the walls, given you paint. I'm honestly no good with color suggestions, but I think that maybe you should stick with a more neutral/understated palette. The natural light is gorgeous and I think anything too bright may take away from that.

the apartment is located in the heart of Mt Vernon, Baltimore!

I had a great feeling about the place when I found it... the landlady is a bit sassy but loves all of her tenants and calls us her "kids." so I do consider myself pretty lucky for not needing to repaint in a year or two!

she asked that I stay away from painting any of the wood/baseboards, so I think I'll need to stay with a neutral palette anyway. but anything but white!
