Eww- popcorn

I'm hoping someone in this community can help me- we moved into a house with the dreaded popcorn ceilings. They are just awful! While I have dreams of being able to afford having them removed or lowering the ceiling, I am hoping that there is some shortterm solution to improving them (something DIY crafty.) Has anyone successfully disguised them ( Read more... )

Ho kay -- first off, from my General Contractor -- Asbestos for ceilings was outlawed in 1971 -- that said, many contractors continued to use it till they ran out -- which, according to said GC, means that any house built up till about 1977 is still suspect and should be tested. After that, he contends it's safe and works in house of that age all the time ( ... )

Curious: in your first example for fabric draping you mention using '1/3's as braces'- what are 1/3's?

oops -- that was supposed to be: 1 x 3's (that is, braces that are usually made of pine and are 3 inches wide by 1 inch thick -- as long as you need 'em to be cut by your friendly lumber company/home depot).

Nope, just me not being able to type "x" properly :)
