Kitchen mini facelift.

My kitchen, although not terribly dreadful, is far from saucy. The whole thing has been Weekend Warriored by a clueless DIYer. I could go into the details, but really, those things would kill the pleasant mood of this fine Tuesday morning.

The DIY Warrior decided to take leftover kitchen floor tiles, cut them in half, and stick them to the wall as a backsplash. The result? A backsplash that looked like it had been made of floor tiles that were cut in half. Nothing like a little floor on the wall to take the fun out of a kitchen. I tried to remove it, then I tried to ignore it. The other day I realized I could paint them, so that’s what I did.

Three coats of white primer followed by two coats of shiny water based clear coat to protect the paint and make it washable. These tiles weren’t shiny, a blessing that likely made this project do-able. At first I left the grout alone, but quickly realized it just looked dirty and was much more complicated painting around the grout. I simply painted over the grout, too, and it looks fine. Now, to find the time and will to paint over the tile floor...
