I do this with the origami cranes I make (I use the 2x2 paper so they're pretty small).

When I was little I would hang them on tree branches for people to pick. It looks pretty cool and is fun.

in place of the standard (ugly) boob/nipple/breast light fixture (the name seems pretty common)... bonus points if it's stuff that can be done in a rental

They have those kits that let you convert a light bulb socket in an existing ceiling light fixture to a plug so you can hang a corded/plug light from the old fixture. They sell them at Lowes/Home Depot.

I don't have a picture of it right now because we have recently moved but I use a roll top desk in my guest room for my office stuff.

I should also add that we have a desktop computer, so roll top desks won't work, I don't think. Plus, we're considering upgrading to an iMac soon.
