It was intelligent without conceit, realistic but still touching, and completely without a trace of Hollywood or blockbuster stylistics. The use of light and colour had all the glamour and shine of a small-budget 80s art film, and to good effect. The acting was amazing. Nothing was awkward or patronizing. It deserved every Oscar it got.

Plus, I cried during a movie for the second time this year. I'm getting to be some kind of sap. Or possibly it was just that good. You decide.
