One of my coworkers, Sandra, has this ex boyfriend that has been bothering her at our work. Last night he came up there and she basically tried to ignore him and she went to the bathroom to avoid him. He was talking to the other girl that was working and kept saying stuff to her about the bible. He also told her something like, "Do you remember Columbine? She's gonna make me do it." I guess he left after that. Whenever Sandra found out what he said she decided to lock the doors to the front room in case he came back. He did come back so she called the police. The police took him into custody, but said they could only hold him for the night. The cop recommended she get a restraining order. The other girl that was working that night saw him at the Jack In the Box across the street from our work that morning after Sandra had left. What really worries me about this situation is that he's schizophrenic. It also scares me that Sandra is pregnant by her current non-psycho (as far as I know) boyfriend; she just found out Christmas Eve. I'm worried if he finds out he'll be even more upset.
I wasn't there last night, but it scares the crap out of me. I sent an e-mail to my abnormal psych prof. from last semester in hopes that he'll know of something we could do besides kick him out of our White Castle (which we've done, if he comes back we're supposed to call the police) and Sandra getting a restraining order. If he's schizophrenic I doubt a restraining order would really stop him, anyway.
She's working tonight, too, so I'm half expecting to go in tomorrow and find out something bad happened. White Castle is open 24 hours, even in the front room, and ours is really slow at night. I keep thinking about the fact that you're more likely to be murdered by someone you know than a stranger, and I think it's even more likely that it'll be someone who is/was your intimate partner.
I think I'm going to start keeping my cell phone on me at work for a little while. It should be okay so long as it's on vibrate. That way if something happened while I was there and I couldn't make it to the office where our phone is, I'd have a phone so I could call the police. I work with Sandra for a couple hours tomorrow, but I'm not too worried about that, since I worked with her for a couple of hours today and he didn't show up. Still, better to be safe than sorry.
