One problem is that the prospective buyer often tries to buy a house for far less then it's actually worth. Take House A. House A is worth 300k. A recent prospective buyer put an offer in for far less - about 250, plus some weird closing items. No seller is going to touch that offer.
It's also annoying to have to drive into Wasilla from Anchorage to clean, dust, turn lights on, turn on the fireplace, and make sure the entire place smells of freshly baked goods. Plus the music has to be hearable but not too obvious.
However buying is equally annoying. Mostly because most houses one goes to look at it is trying to hide every flaw it has. Take a house I recently saw. Someone had put a line of cinder-blocks in the basement and the cinder-blocks had been frost-heaved up, causing the moving trusses move so much it cracked the ceilings and walls. It was lovely yes, but had a lot of issues with the structure. Or people want a lot of money for places that need a lot of work. Another house was actually quite big ith a lot of amenities. However, other then the granite countertops everything needed updating. Floors, bathrooms, paint, lights, fireplace, and it had a non-function wet bar. Plus it needed a rebuild of it's deck.
Fun times.
