Actually, I would not recommend using imgur for larger pictures, take a look here:

It's a small difference in quality, but it's there.

I always go throught all the filters to see if I can get any cool results. :P

I usually have a few "tester" icons open in photoshop that I'll test out textures on, just to make sure they're useful and and don't have any weird spots.
IDK, I usually have a negative space icon, close-crop icon, and then a mid-crop icon to test them with.

i like to experiment with using layer masks with lots of different brushes to see what kind of interesting results i can get.

I feel like a crazy person, but I've already made 46 icon textures and 8 large ones o_O
