The Trials to unmake Hell will be grueling, expensive, and require an expedition of supernatural proportions, but perhaps Sam and Castiel can find the redemption they seek, if only in one another.

--The Trials have to be performed in Hell, so Cas has to carry Sam's soul there. And we wind up with the contrasting visuals of Cas carrying Sam bridal style and flying in over Hell and Dean discovering Sam's empty (and by all accounts very dead-looking) body left behind. (Spoiler Alert: he is Not Happy)
--Part of the journey into Hell involves Sam and Cas sneaking onto Charon's boat to cross the river Styx.
--Cas' wings are visible in Hell. He won't allow Sam to touch them until near the end of the fic, when Sam becomes convinced that he needs to sacrifice himself as part of the Trials and Cas has to talk him out of it. He wraps his wings around Sam and flies them out of Hell.
--One of the five Trials is a mirror maze of regrets. Sam and Cas navigate a mirror maze together, where every surface reflects back at them all the events and actions that they feel guilty about.
