a funny thing happened on the way to comic con

Getting your flight delayed at the last second was never fun. Getting your gate changed without your notice? Even more fun. Tucked up in first class, Zach was an old pro at airports, but normally things went without a hitch. Either he knew where he was going ahead of time, say, to Chris' apartment, or he was met with a car at the gate by someone paid to do so. It was a neat arrangement that the cons would set up, and Zach appreciated it.

So when things didn't go normal, it threw him for a loop. When he got off the plane, there was no one there to meet him.

It wasn't the first time he had gone to Comic Con or anything, but the city suddenly became unfamiliar as he stood with his hand wrapped around the strap of his pack, hot despite the airport's air conditioning in his hoodie.

He knew Karl was already at the con due to a panel about Red earlier in the schedule the con had been nice enough to send him ahead of time, so he whipped out his cell phone and started texting, fast.

So, that was what he ended up doing, following the first costumed people he found. Some part of him thought it was a cosmic joke that of all people, they ended up being Stormtroopers. He wheeled his bag behind him and wished he could throw off the hood as he listened to them chatting about every day things and wondered if he was somehow betraying the Star Trek fandom by thinking that Storm Troopers needed a better helmet design to have better accuracy.

The Storm Troopers noticed he was following them, and the Comic Con schedule sticking out of his pack, and didn't recognize him. He talked with them for the last two blocks, and mentioned that he was a guest at the con, was a little lost, and did they happen to know where he could go?

That was how Zachary Quinto came up to Comic Con security, flanked on either side by Storm Trooper escorts.

The con, of course, was in a tizzy as soon as they realized what happened, and had been panicking when his flight had reported in but they hadn't been able to find him. A dozen or three apologies later, Zach laughed it off. He actually got the two Troopers' twitter accounts, a husband and wife which made him grin and think there was proof that not all geeks were loners, and ended up finding his way to his room just in time to find out that he had a panel to go to. So much for getting to talk to Karl.

Zach had heard that Shatner and Nimoy were supposed to be at the con, and he hoped so. Not so much for Shatner, who he still fanboy'd over and thought was a bit a lot of a diva, but for Nimoy. If Leonard did show up, maybe they could go out for dinner... no, wishful thinking. It was impossible to separate the married couple two of them if they were together. Oh well. Lunch, maybe?

With that in mind, Zach went to his panel for LUCID. This was what he got for showing up not only on Friday, but late on Friday. If he hadn't had that meeting at noon he could have gotten out here early Thursday for the start of the con, but that was in the past. Michael had clearly been worried about his showing up sort of last minute, but over all things went well for the panel.

When he was done, the first thing he did was send another text to Karl:

karl, dinner, you in? heard mr. nimoy might be around, going to give him a call and see if maybe we could make it a double date - ha ha

sometimes i'm not spock, how do i get myself into these things, comic con
