1. I'm just relieved that it wasn't Taub. I thought since I read that suicide spoiler that Taub's history was complete misdirection. It was kind of nice to be right about that. Kutner, while I liked him, mattered to me the least, and his death goes along well with the general theory in the show that nobody is truly happy.

2. What annoys me most about the Cuddy and Cameron interaction in that preview is that it seems like there's a cat fight going on. It's always bugged me that they're been tension between them. Oh, watch this man come between Cuddy and Cameron, who both "want" him for the wrong reasons. Both of those women need to realize that love is not what they've been feeling at all. For Cameron, House has always fulfilled a kind of need to "save" someone. For Cuddy, she's been creating an illusion for herself that House can ease the pain of her loneliness/fill a void in her life that she doesn't otherwise know how to fill. I'll save my big judgements for the episode, but I think this season has seen a lot of the ( ... )

Excellent points, shutterbug! Thanks much for your long and detailed reply! I, too, am relieved that it wasn't Taub, and I, too, suspected that the previous references to his suicide attempt was an intentional misdirection. :-) And, yes, Kutner's suicide goes with the "nobody's happy" theme - but I still really liked him, and I'm hoping maybe the whole episode was a dream (yes, I'm clearly in denial ( ... )

Hey Sassy! Thanks for the email. I am currently avoiding Fox Forum, I don't think I can handle what I can only imagine is going on over there right now ( ... )

Hey Housezing, thanks for coming over! (I hope it's okay if I "friend" you!) I thought you might intentionally be avoiding the forum. :-)

You know I, too, am really upset about the promo and am hoping it was, indeed, a misdirection! Maybe tonight's episode was all a dream and in the next episode, Cameron reveals that she's still in love with House, House rejects her, and she commits suicide. Honestly, that's what I thought would happen when I learned of the spoilers.

>>My heart and viewing eyes really can't take a return of the Cameron crush on House to the forefront of the show. I thought DS summed it up best when asked about House/Cam, he said, "Been there, done that." I would really hope that we don't have to go through this all over again. I just need to keep telling myself, "I can put my trust in DS, I can put my trust in DS." I can, right?<<

Thank you for reminding me that Shore said that. That gives me hope.

>>- the lighting in this episode ensured that this episode would lack any happiness.<<

Do you think that the lighting (darkish blue) might suggest it's in House's head? In a way, it seems similar to "No Reason" in that the people in it reflected how House views them, as well as functioning as aspects of himself. I'm toying with the idea, given to me by a friend via e-mail...
I'm going to jump in here. I'm not expert, but I work with and around lighting designers a lot, so lighting is something I have lots of thoughts about. I don't think it was meant to suggest this is a hallucination or a vision of House's at all. It's incredibly symbolic of what's happening, though. The color and the clarity were two elements of the lighting that really jumped out at me. It was very muted, the color. The bright, saturated colors that we usually see were not there tonight, and I think that was meant to evoke a subconcious emotional reaction in the viewer. It would immediately dampen a mood, give the viewer a sense of gloominess. That this ( ... )

I now know it wasn't a dream from reading Ausiello's column. :-) Thank you so much for sharing all your knowledge about lighting. It's really impressive; I will read your post again right before I rewatch so I can pay attention to all the things you've pointed out - things I'd never notice on my own!

I am totally annoyed with what's going on on the Forum now. The idiot(s) are posting racial slurs now and I'm truly over it.

Racial slurs?! WTF?

How AWFUL.

Just when I feel that we are making strides in human rights, then I am reminded that we have a long way to go....

SIGH.

Hi Sassy, thanks for letting me know that you have a thread going on over here. I just wanted to say hi - I don't have anything else to say about the episode right now - so I'll wait until more comes to mind :-) In a way, thought, I don't mind. Because I'm so busy right now that I'm glad that I don't have a million things to figure out how to express!

I didn't like the promo either - it had a BTDT feel to it that I thought TPTB had finished with already. How many ships can they pander to at once?? That being said - I've enjoyed watching House and Cuddy take tentative steps towards - *something*. Not sure what, exactly, except that they both seem to be putting out feelers for some happiness in their lives. I'm not being disloyal to Stacy - you know that I've frequently expressed the idea that I could see House and Cuddy in a relationship for while or so.

The whole build-up towards the season finale is giving me angst. I'll be glad when it's over. I crave the relaxation of House-free summer hiatus :-)

>>Thanks for the email! And thanks as well for this venue especially since the following would most likely have been either misunderstood/ garnered much verbal abuse on the forum! <<

That place…there really aren’t words!

>>As you know, I am in a distinct minority: I never much cared for Kutner.<<

You’re also in the minority for your love of Foreman, Rosie! ;-)

>> The more I watched him, the more I felt something was off with this character despite (or perhaps BECAUSE!) of his behavior which many found funny-- such as his urinating on House’s chair. Indeed, instead of finding this act funny, I thought it revealed a troubled person, rather than simply a juvenile act. […] In my mind, therefore, he was an ADULT peeing on someone's furniture (House’s notwithstanding!)becasue he had ISSUES. (Honestly, how would anyone really feel if they discovered an adult had peed on their chair?)... )
