So in season 3 Kate and Sawyer wound up breaking rocks to help the Others build what Juliet later told Sawyer would be a runway. But she didn't know what the runway was for.
What if it was for the O6? If someone mentioned something to Richard or some other Other while the Island is time-skipping about people having to return...
Here's why I think this: the off-season ARG brought Ajira Airways to our attention, including these posters. Our remaining Island dwellers found an Ajira water bottle in one of the two outriggers left on the beach in last week's episode. Alex and her boyfriend Karl used an outrigger to travel from the smaller Island (where the runway was being built) and the main Island.
Who's to say the Others didn't have more outriggers somewhere? I'm wondering if the O6 took a chartered Ajira flight to the smaller island and then used toe boats to get to the beach camp on the main Island. Then they found the camp abandoned and left the boats to go investigate.
