Not an entire waste of a day

I have a confession:  I am not crafty.  I have crafty aspirations, and I have crafty delusions, but, generally speaking, I have more ideas for projects than actual completed projects.  I also seem to have trouble with how the physical world works.  So if I'm putting something together, I'm inevitably going to find that I miscalculated how tab A fits into tab B and therefore I'm stuck with mess C unless I want to rip it out and start from scratch.  Which usually makes me feel very, very tired.

The cost of materials makes me nervous.   I don’t mind spending a few more bucks to get what I really want, but there’s a pretty good chance that I’m going to spend more and then not get what I want at all.  Risky!  Unlike crappy purchases in retail-land, I can’t very well take this stuff back, all indignant, “I can’t believe you sold me this fabric!  Surely you could tell from a mile away that I’m incompetent at this sort of thing.  Look at this!  Does this even resemble a shirt?  You can either fix that wonky collar, or I’m afraid you’re going to have to refund my cash.”

So I am extra, extra pleased that I managed to cover these pillows.

Look how not completely disgusting they look!  I’m not going to claim that they weren’t a complete pain in the ass though.  One came out a bit small-ish, due to some half-assed measuring.  I also have yards and yards of cord that I had intended to edge these with, but after a major struggle, I figured out that I couldn’t get all of the bias tape stuff inside the pillow (sorry if I’m throwing anyone off with my technical jargon) without hand-sewing the whole thing and, god knows I’m not willing to go that far.  So I just went with a simple, envelope-style pillow slip.

I’m pretty pleased with how I didn’t chicken out too.  Ulysses and I went to IKEA last week and they had duck down throw pillows for $5.00 each.  We figured this was a good deal, but didn’t like any of the covers (sold separately).  In a moment of Swedish-induced confidence, I claimed that I could probably get some fabric and cover them myself.  I actually managed to buy the fabric and finish the covers in less than a week after initial purchase.

So take that, craft-anxiety!
